Reviewing The GAME Plan

For this weeks blog post I will be reviewing my GAME Plan for incorporating the following NETS standards into my choral curriculum: “communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats” (ISTE, 2008). During this review I will be looking at the resources needed to carry out the plan, and any other considerations as well as the steps I have taken so far.

The first part of my GAME plan was to build a website. After determining the audience, goals, and content of the website, the information will need to be organized (Cennamo, Ross & Ertmer, 2009). A simple concept map from Microsoft Word should help organize the flow of the links and pages. A PDF converter would also be advisable to down load because as stated by Cennamo, “Documents may need to be converted to PDF format to allow them to be viewed by the widest number of users”(2009). When the organization is complete the site can be built using the Microsoft Front Page and saved on a flash drive. At that point it would be advisable to secure the help of a technology director or an experienced colleague to help “Deliver” the created website to a “web server”(2009). I will be uploading to my schools server, so series of codes will be needed, my personal code and the servers FTP code. I have presently gained all the resources and completed all of the steps listed above.

  1. Bonnie,

There are many sites on the internet that offer an easy way to create and design your own web page. One example of this is a site called TeacherWeb. "TeacherWeb offers website solutions for teachers, schools, and districts. TeacherWeb sites are completely customizable and easy-to-use" (TeacherWeb Inc, 2009). I started the process of creating my own web site and found out that they offer a 30-day free trial and then it is $40.00 a year to maintain the site. If you are interested in creating a web site for your classroom, check out the site.

  2. Thanks Jennifer, I will take a look at the site. However, in my school district we must set up our websites using the schools server. The district also has a certain format they require for our sites they want everything clean and professional looking very business like and uniform. However, I will add your sight to my resource folder. Thanks for the suggestion.

  3. Bonnie, We've had to go to sharepoint as a county and I miss my 'old' website so much! If you by chance end up using FrontPage (by Microsoft) as your webpage editor, I have loads of instructions that will help. If you are forced to use sharepoint as I am, we have training materials set up on a site and I can send you that as well if you need it. Just let me know and I can send them to you.

You are most definitly correct about the pdf converter. Many people have trouble viewing information on teacher websites due to this problem. If by chance your office suite doesn't have this option built in (Office 2007 has it built in in the 'Print' menu), you can download a free converter called CutePDF at www.cutepdf.com/ I used it for years and it's very easy to use.

  4. Bonnie,
Congratulations on making such wonderful progress with setting up your website. This is also a goal of mine within my GAME plan, but I have not been able to get this process started due tot he fact that I spent time working on my first goal this past week.

I plan on checking out Microsoft FrontPage this week. Our school district also has several restrictions in terms of posting content related to our school without permission. If you receive information from Anita in regards to making this process a simple task, would yo consider sharing it with me? I would of course ask permission from Anita.

Once again, thanks for the hint in terms of FrontPage. I look forward to experimenting with this site over the next few days.

  5. Great job in making a webpage. I teach my kids in my web design class that if it does not have a web age it is not very important in todays society. We all look to the internet first for inforamtion and if you or your product is not accessible then it must not be relevant.

  7. Thank you everyone for your great comments! Another great free PDF converter is http://www.pdf995.com/ PDFs can also be useful to student who have trouble with vision or word recognition as it has word to voice capabilities. If you go to the tool bar and click on view at the bottom of the list you will find read aloud. The text will then be made audible by digital a digital voice. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for sharing.
